HELLO S.T.A.Y. FAMILY, And Happy New Year!

1/26/2026

January is winding down, and the season looks different for each of us! Whether you’re enjoying time on the mountain, patiently waiting for snowfall, or cozying up indoors, it’s a natural time to notice what’s supporting you and what feels draining. This season, we’re focusing on intentional awareness and have included tips and resources below to help you tune in.

INTENTIONAL AWARENESS:

Intentional awareness means noticing your inner and outer world. It reveals what supports your well-being and highlights where you may need care. As the season unfolds, try observing yourself with honesty and curiosity. Paying attention without judgment creates space for clarity and compassion.

Tip #1: Recognizing & Addressing Burnout

The American Psychological Association describes burnout as a form of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that develops after prolonged stress and overwork. Burnout is common, and though it may feel like it, it is not a sign of weakness. It can feel especially strange or distressing to burn out on activities that we love. It is important to remember that it won't last forever. Recognizing it early and taking steps to address it is essential for maintaining your energy and continuing to move forward.

Reflection Questions:

  • Am I struggling to feel rested even after time off?
  • Am I feeling more irritable or frustrated?
  • Having a hard time finishing tasks that normally feel manageable?
  • What parts of my day feel good right now? What feels draining?

Tool Kit:

  • Take a Pause: If possible, give yourself some time off. If that’s not an option, try reshaping your priorities or setting clear limits on tasks that drain your energy.
  • Phone a Friend: Ask for support or delegate tasks.
  • Mini Resets: Schedule a short amount of time each day to “unplug” completely.

Tip #2: Selective Social Media Use

Social media can be a powerful tool for connection and staying informed, it can also be a double-edged sword. Constant stimuli, especially upsetting content, can have profound effects on your mental health. Even if deleting social media isn’t an option, you can still take steps to give your brain a break.

Reflection Questions:

  • How do you feel when you scroll?
  • Are you using social media as a tool for connection or comparison?
  • Are you staying informed in a way that empowers you, or are you taking in so much information that it leaves you feeling overwhelmed and unable to engage in your local community?

Tool Kit:

  • Reflect as you scroll: Notice how posts make you feel and adjust your usage based on your mood and energy.
  • Change where the app lives: Move it off your home screen or switch to a web-based version.
  • Swap in longer-form content: Replace a short scroll with a book, podcast, or video that engages your mind more deeply.

Tip #3: Mindful Substance Use

Substance use is frequently woven into the action sports community, used to celebrate big wins, manage fear or pain, and cope with the demands of day-to-day life. Bringing awareness to when and why we partake can be a helpful tool for examining our relationship with substances.

Reflection Questions:

  • When do you notice yourself reaching for substances, and what’s usually going on for you in those moments?
  • Are substances adding value to the experience or creating numbness and escape?

Tool Kit:

  • Make a small change: Choose when and how you use substances deliberately to better support your mental health.
  • When to ask for help: If substance use is no longer supporting your well-being, if you’re relying on it more to cope with stress, or if it’s starting to impact your health, relationships, or daily life in ways you don’t want.

EVENT HIGHLIGHT:

On December 14, 2025, we attended the world premiere of Wayward, a snowboard documentary by filmmaker Mia Lambson that celebrates the women who shaped snowboarding. Our founder and Executive Director, Desiree Melancon, reflects on the event and how it deeply aligns with our organization.

MERCH ALERT:

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT S.T.A.Y.:

HOW

Setting up a monthly donation through Classy is quick, secure, and easy breezy. Simply go to Somebody’s Thinking About You Classy page here and select the “monthly option” and choose your donation amount. Enter your payment information and Classy’s secure platform will handle the rest — automatically processing your contribution on the same day each month.

WHY

Your recurring donation helps to create stability in our organization — allowing us to provide consistent resources throughout the year to the action sports community.

WHAT IT DOES

Every dollar you donate fuels our goals in action. Your contriutions support the vital work that keeps our organization running — from sharing resources around suicide prevention and mental health in action sports (and at the same time decreasing the stigma while talking about it!), offering free mental health programming, outreach to artists who help create to spread awareness and combat the stigma, attending events with our team of mental health professionals to share resources and encourage folks to seek help (for themselves or others) when needed, and our administrative team working behind the seems that align with our mission at S.T.A.Y.

  • A monthly donation of $25 for the year would allow us to provide one resource take-away at our winter events.
  • A monthly donation of $75 for the year would allow us to provide one Suicide Prevention Clinic with a Q&A with our team to the community.

TAKEAWAYS:

Thank you for being here. We are proud of you for showing up for yourself, each other, and our community. If you or someone you know could use support, please reach out.
